Hello friends, strangers, and fellow creatives!
My name is Livia Hooson, I am an editorial and creative writer presently living in Medellin, Colombia where I am a freelance writer, practicing yogi, and digital documentarian. The Honest Blonde is an identity that evolved from my emotional story-telling and raw reverie—and she has etched her way into my journalistic voice as well. It is my nature to lean in closer to the people and places around me so I can share my perspective, descriptions and recognitions through a lens that continues to be shaped each day spent abroad. Last year I left my full-time corporate job working for a luxury lifestyle publication to pursue more meaningful projects with a location independent workflow; this next year or so will be spent living and journeying across South America where I am reporting from various locations and for handful of online publications. My writing pursuits are centered around sustainability in architecture, fashion and food as well as human-interest pieces focused on diverse and international thought leaders. My work is intended to empower my audiences to turn desired activism into direct action, whether you are an aspiring chef or a passionate traveler.
There is a voice within each of us: a creative and compelling narrative that is uniquely yours and I am eager to converge with you through this platform and beyond to share stories and histories from our seats around the globe. Because creating art is a way of life and a way to elevate ourselves and our communities.
The story is in the details.
Consider this the unabridged, still-in-the-works, experimental development of my commentary and visual captures of this honest life. From the streets of Washington, D.C. to the sands of Caribbean islands; here I share my conversations with locals, inner controversies, and the journey to the self through yoga. I am quenching my thirst to see more of the story—a widening of the lens if you will—that exposes the boundlessness of humanity. What I am constantly learning is that when I unravel one answer, it seems to only lead to an infinite supply of more questions. Yet the more I listen, the more I find a commonality between us and them, and this is what keeps me searching, bare-handed with a lens in front of me and a camcorder on my hip. On the worst of days I am waiting for answers to drop from the sky, and on the best of days I go hunting for them.
